Performance Review Training

Manager Coaching

Overview

Performance reviews are a time for reflection for the individual employee, the manager, and the overall team. They can be used to invigorate employee morale, realign, set new goals, and are a time for reflection. It isn’t simply about what the employee can do for the company, but what the company can also do for the employee. It should be a collaborative process that is reflective of past and present performance, acknowledge (and celebrate) milestones, and helps set the stage for the future.

Why It Matters

Performance reviews often get a bad rep as being awkward, biased, or anxiety-inflicting, which is why training managers on how to conduct collaborative, engaging reviews is a paramount part of manager coaching and development and integral to the greater employee experience. There should be a fair amount of thoughtful preparation that goes into the review including peer evaluations and cross-team evaluations to help recognize and reward growth while also recognizing a person’s unique challenges and areas to focus training or development. More frequent reviews can be less formal and are anchored in being more recent and therefore more relevant and timely.
